Gardening fun!
We had a lovely time this afternoon planting pea and cucumber seeds. We placed our pots carefully in the polytunnel and we will check them each week. Special thanks to Oliver’s parents for helping us!
Pencil pots
In Design Technology we have been making our own pencil pots! We painted them this week and next week we will add the final decorations before we can test them out!
Investigating how flowers grow
We have been reading “The Tiny Seed” and exploring the life cycle of a sunflower. We have been drawing sunflowers using pastels, exploring soil and seeds in a hands-on way and pretending to grow our own flowers in our garden den!
Science questions and investigations
Our question was “Do woodlice like damp or dry places?” We carefully observed them over time and our predictions were correct! The woodlice moved quickly to the damp side of the dish where the paper was wet. We linked this back to their microhabitats and where they like to live. We also found out…
Explanations
In English we looked at features of an explanation text. Then we worked in pairs to find and label each feature so we know what to include in our own writing!
Super stories
This week Year 1 have worked hard to retell the story of Pinocchio. Reception have created their own sentences to describe the main events. Year 1 really enjoyed reading and sharing their stories with their friends!
Our visit to Rosliston Forestry Centre
We had an amazing day full of learning at Rosliston! We were nature detectives and went to a variety of different habitats around the centre looking for minibeasts! We used nets, brushes and magnifiers to spot them and record our findings. We used our senses in the herb garden and made hedgehog…
My history
We have been trying to answer the question, how am I making history? We played “Guess Who” with our baby photographs and talked about how much we have changed. Then we made our own personal timelines. Many thanks to all our families for sharing their precious photographs!
Advice for Pinocchio
Year 1 have been busy offering advice to Pinocchio! He wants to be a real boy but on his first day of school he was distracted and went to a puppet show instead! We wanted to help him make good choices!
Double numbers
This week Reception have been exploring double numbers and looking at patterns. It always helps to learn new things in a practical way!
Invitations to play
We have lots of activities set up in Maple class to provide independent learning opportunities. We aim to spark curiosity, imagination, autonomy and teamwork. Here are some examples of some recent invitations to play.
Parachute!
We displayed some fantastic teamwork playing a variety of games with the parachute. Our favourite was when we had to go underneath and swap places with a partner!
